Tommie East Hall

Student Housing, Built with Care

In 2019, the University of St. Thomas set out to build the 5-story Tommie East Hall. To manage the project, the University engaged Ryan Companies, who in turn hired Collins as its design-build electrical partner.

Prior to construction, Collins designed electrical solutions that could meet the University’s environmental expectations and function within the building’s challenging structure, which transitions from post-tension at its base to structural steel construction in its upper levels.

During construction, Collins installed all of the building’s indoor and outdoor lighting and power systems, including an all-new, medium-voltage substation. In the end, Tommie Hall houses 260 students and opened in the fall of 2020—right on schedule—and received a platinum LEED certification, the U.S. Green Building Council’s highest rating.
