Rand Hotel Tower

ART DECO WONDER LIGHTS THE MINNEAPOLIS SKYLINE

Built in the 1920s, the Rand Tower is a 26-story, Art Deco-inspired high rise in downtown Minneapolis. Maven Real Estate Partners purchased the Rand in 2017 and aimed to convert the historic building from office space to a 270-guestroom, four-and-a-half star hotel. To oversee this $110 million renovation, Maven hired Ryan Companies. In turn, Ryan Companies hired Collins as its electrical partner.

Prior to construction, Collins meticulously designed and installed power and lighting solutions that would meet Maven’s world-class goals and fit within the century-old building’s confines. The effort included more than a mile of cove lighting in the guest rooms, theater-grade dimming in common areas, a control system behind a retractable, imported roof, and—perhaps most notably—115 color-changing lights on the exterior of the iconic high rise.

Collins also designed and installed many of the hotel’s technology systems, including those related to voice, data, audiovisual, access control and closed circuit camera security. In the end, Collins helped Ryan Companies turn the project over five weeks early.
