Because 3M’s new water treatment facility in Cottage Grove, MN, was vast in size and scope, it required an electrical construction partner that could scale accordingly. Collins met the moment, investing 89,000 hours in the field to install more than 5,000 feet of underground, 15kV duct bank; a 3,000-amp cable bus; two standby generators; and two roll-up docking stations. Collins also connected six pump houses and four water clarifier tanks–and provided redundant underground fiber-optic loops sitewide.

The expansive job site required significant manpower and seamless collaboration between project managers, the field operations manager, the safety director, and multiple Collins field crews. Among the challenges were the use of rigid conduits throughout and the delivery of large service supplies to numerous buildings, standby systems, pump houses, and holding ponds.
