Charged with expanding M Health Fairview’s NICU at St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood, Knutson Construction called on Collins to provide electrical services for the project. The level III NICU received a comprehensive redesign and upgrade that increased the number of patient beds by 50 percent.

Collins assisted with the demolition of the existing emergency room and the creation of the new space, adding new lighting and controls, normal and critical power systems, fire alarm, security, and voice data support. Because the hospital was fully occupied throughout construction, Collins took special precautions to prevent excessive noise and dust on the site while also ensuring zero power interruptions. Ultimately, the NICU project was completed on time and on budget—with minimal disruption to the hospital and its patients.
