New Lafayette Bridge over the Mississippi

The new 3,200-foot long Lafayette Bridge carries Highway 52 over the Mississippi River at the southeast corner of downtown St. Paul. The four-year project replaced one of the state’s most worrisome, structurally deficient bridges. A pedestrian and bicycle crossing on the northbound bridge allows greater river and trail access. The new bridge design frees up land for redevelopment along the riverfront by reducing the number of piers.
